The national Council of the Order of Medicine Doctors invites Internet users to demonstrate some critical sense on all online publications. The confidence that our fellow citizens give to information provided by the medical corps has to be sustained with particular attention. This is the reason why CNOM has asked to all medicine doctors publishing their own professional website to display the following points:
1. The Internet use must be able to ensure that the website publishing information on health is the one of a medicine doctor, if it is presented as such. The professional website of a medicine doctor has to display, on its welcome page, a link with a Heading to the Registry of the of the website of CNOM and a link towards the dedicated page of the public site of CNOM that displays the ordinal publications and recommendations relative to medical deontology on the Web.
2. The professional website of a medicine doctor must provide practical information on the address, the specialty, the recognized titles, the exercise mode, the health establishment in which he intervenes, the accesses, the situation towards organisms of social protection.
3. When health information is published on this site, the explanations must be of a purely informative nature on illnesses, prevention, treatments, practiced techniques. The medicine doctor must present in an objective manner the pros and possible cons of the of the acts, prescriptions, interventions. He must do so in a simple and pedagogical way, and indicate, if applicable, his sources and references. This public information may come and usefully complete the one that will have been previously given to a patient during a consultation. In this case, it cannot have vocation to replace it. The dates of publication and/or update must be mentioned.
4. When the medicine doctor is not able to ensure himself regular updates on his professional site, CNOM recommends that the information then be preferentially delivered by the creation of links towards information sites for the public at large that have no interest of mercantile nature.
5. When the site publishes, as illustration of its content, images or photographs, no identification of people must be possible. These documents must not have a representation that may lead to think that the hoped-for result will be obtained, which would be a deception, whatever the concerned medical or chirurgical domain.
6. The site shall not do any advertisement, either direct or indirect, for the medicine doctor or for the organisms to which he may provide his collaboration.
7. The professional site of the medicine doctor must strictly respect the confidentiality of the collected personal data.
8. The medicine doctor must declare on this site his links of interest to any firm in relation with the domain of health and care. If applicable, he specifies the financing of the site and the one of its maintenance.
